As you may know, the International Pow Wow travel Convetion is coming to Miami Beach May 16-20, 2009. It is the largest generator of Visit USA travel with about $4 billion worth of future travel expected to be booked. The thousands of attendees include journalists and travel industry delegates from more than 70 countries.
For us thrifty folks this means: a party and pep rally with free music, food and drinks at the Miami Beach Convention Center today, May 11th, 2009 from 6:30pm - 9:30pm. You do need to bring identification that shows you are 21 or older, and that you live in Miami Beach or work in the hospitality industry. Think of it as bribery. You live/work on the Beach? Free Appetizers in Merrick Park

Who knew you could eat for free in ritzy Merrick Park in Coral Gables, Miami's most expensive neighbourhood? Oh, pardon - Coral gables is not Miami. The City Beautiful is a distinctive city apart from the rest of us! And so is Village of Merrick Park not your regular old mall. With stores like Hugo Boss, Tiffany & Co., and Swarovski, you can tell the regular clientele is not SoBe Cheapos like me. Unless...it's Wednesday night! That's when The Grape, a wine bar in Merrick Park hosts "The Grape Crush" from 5-7pm. Choose from their red & white wine flights and enjoy complimentary appetizers from the bar.

Free Movie by the Pool

Did you know that the Miami Beach Residents with Perks programs offer regular screenings of free Movies in Miami Beach's Pools and Parks? The next one is scheduled for May 15. Movie Title TBA. Meet at the Scott Rakow Youth Center on 2700 Sheridan Avenue in Miami Beach. Family and friends get together for a movie on the big screen! More events here.

FYI. I am not sure whether this event is titled Movie by the pool or in the pool. While I have never watched a movie inside of a swimming pool, this may be a fun experience on a very hot summer night. You will just have to come to try it out for yourself!

Free concert and block party at Bougainvillea's

I just love Bougainevillea's Old Florida tavern. It makes me feel like I do not live in the crazy, hostile and stressful city that Miami is all too often. Bougie's is that kind of special place where you just walk in, feel immediately relaxed, absorb the cozy atmosphere, order a beer, and enjoy a great night out under Miami's tropical skies. As palm trees sway next to your outside patio table, local musicians accentuate the night with anything from Soul, to Rock, to Reggae, to Jazz and even Country music. Come celebrate Bougie's Saturday, May 9th from 2pm - 5am with free concerts for their 9th anniversary block party.
Performing Live:
TILT: 3:30pm - 4:30pm
MILLER ROAD: 6pm - 8pm
